Frequently Asked Questions
How are prayer times calculated?
Prayer times are calculated using your GPS coordinates along with established astronomical formulas. The app determines the sun's position relative to your location to compute each prayer time according to your selected calculation method.
Which calculation methods are supported?
Iman Path supports 13 calculation methods: Muslim World League (MWL), ISNA (North America), Umm al-Qura (Makkah), Egyptian General Authority, Karachi, Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait, Moonsighting Committee, Singapore, Diyanet (Turkey), Tehran and Shia Ithna Ashari. By default the app picks a method based on your country, and you can switch to the one your community follows. You can also set your madhab (Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali or Ja'fari), which adjusts the Asr time.
Can I get adhan notifications?
You can get a notification at the start of each of the five daily prayers, and turn each prayer on or off individually. Notifications use your device's standard notification sound. The app does not currently play the adhan audio. During Ramadan, the Fajr and Maghrib notifications become Suhoor and Iftar alerts.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once your location is set, prayer times are calculated locally on your device using astronomical algorithms, so no internet connection is needed. The one exception is the Diyanet (Turkey) method, which loads official times from Diyanet when you are online and falls back to saved times when you are offline.
How accurate are the prayer times?
Times are computed with the widely used open-source Adhan calculation library, based on your coordinates and the method you select. Small differences of a minute or two from your local mosque's timetable are normal, so pick the calculation method and madhab your community follows.
